A Love of Walking

Well I’m Mark Smith, I was born in the Midlands and have lived in many areas of England.Recently I have found myself in Lancashire, within easy striking of The Lake District, The Yorkshire Dales, The Peak District and Snowdonia.

About 3 years ago a friend and I got talking about our youth and realised we both used to love walking and had missed it. I progressed from walks up the river in Settle to my first peak – Ingleborough, -5⁰C and thick fog, and I loved it! The challenge, the sense of success stood on the top, even if you could not see 20ft in front of you!.I look back at my childhood with great warmth, spent walking all over mid and north Wales with my parents. Looking up with awe at the mountain tops thinking how amazing it would be to climb them. As a teenager and in my early adult years I seemed to forget about the great outdoors, concentrating on married life, work and trying to be one step ahead of the crowd.

Now 3 years later and I am the first to admit I have many peaks (not to mention all of Scotland!) to conquer but I’ve enjoyed what I have achieved so far, plus its reawakened another interest I had in my younger years – photography. So this website really is a tribute to 3 things, walking, photography and most importantly, rediscovering the excitement and thirst for life I had as a teenager!

I love my gadgets and this has extended into walking, much to the amusement of my friends… solar panels on my rucksack, Satmap, i even had a camping kitchen sink, before it got stolen!! I may therefore put some gadget reviews together too in the future.

I think that’s more than enough of me, and I don’t believe really has any relevance to the rest of the website!
